Cathedral Kids FAQ
When do you meet?
We meet Sundays from 9:30-10:30 in the building with the waterfall and 11:00-12:00 in the bigger building. Wednesdays we meet from 6:30-8:00 in the building with the waterfall. We also have special events to serve our community or deepen friendships once per month.
Do we have to preregister?
Nope! Come on by! Any emergency contact info or health/allergy information is appreciated before you leave your student, but you are welcome to come just as you are anytime!
What do you do?
We are all about Jesus and we have a lot of fun connecting with Him! We always have a moment to experience Jesus through a bible lesson. We always pray. We always play. We enjoy active games like tag and ninja dodgeball that allow us to build friendships, get wiggles out, laugh, relax, and open up our hearts to Jesus. Our bible lessons cater to many different learning styles, seeking to joyfully capture the imagination and creativity of our kids. We also enjoy, worship, art projects, service projects, and any other creative ways to grow closer to Jesus.
My child is homeschooled, working above or below grade level, what group should they be in?
We seek to listen to the needs of the students and families, but generally we find students do best in the same group of kids who are their same age. For Cathedral Kids, that is 8, 9, and 10 year olds. If your student is 10, and working above, or 8 and working below, consider this group for them still since it allows them to bond with kids of their same age and enjoy the excitement of moving up to the next age group every 3 years or so.
My child is special needs, are they welcomed?
Yes! This is a church for all people and kids. If your child needs extra support in any way, please let Pastor Becca know and she will arrange to get them the support they need while at church.
Does it cost anything?
Usually not, though some special events like camps or parties where food is provided, we ask for a donation to help cover costs. If you would like to apply for a partial scholarship for camps you can contact pastor Becca. For more information see our events calendar.
We are having a family Crisis, who can help?
Pastor Becca, or another pastor on our staff would be happy to come pray with and support your family through any crisis. Please call the church office or Pastor Becca if there is a death in the family (even of a pet since those impact kids), a hospital visit of a loved one, or any other personal issue you need support with. We are here to show you love!
Do you train and screen your Volunteers?
All our adult volunteers must pass a background check before serving, but we also do extensive safety training with our volunteers. Twice a year, before our summer and winter camps they get extensive training, but this training is reviewed and reminded of regularly, about once per month.
What are your child safety standards?
Child safety is of the utmost importance to us. We are dedicated to make Cathedral Kids an emotionally safe and a physically safe place for kids. We help kids learn to interact with each other in kind and uplifting ways. We have a staff that is tuned into the kids' needs and athletic abilities. We also do extensive safety training for our adults such as never being alone with a minor. If you would like to see our training packets, we would be happy to share them with you.
I want to get to know other parents and families in the church, how can I do that?
There are lots of ways to get involved at Washington Cathedral. There are worship services, small groups to join, service projects, and lots of places to volunteer. Contact Pastor Jackie if you would like to find a way to connect with other parents and families at Washington Cathedral.
