Written by Fiona Monaghan God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start. Now I’m alert to God’s ways; I don’t take God for granted. Every day I review the ways he works; I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes. Psalm 18:20-24 (The Message)
Do you wonder why life is so messy and why things don’t go as planned? Why those plans we make don’t work out, or the people we thought we knew keep surprising us with something different? This passage caused me to take a different look at how I view my everyday life. It has been so helpful and I have found much comfort and help from reading and re-reading it.
It reflects submission “when I placed all the pieces before him…” recognizing that things are a mess…that it isn’t working out the way I thought; and to be alert now and follow the directions given to me without fighting them. I love that piece… I especially like the last line “God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes…” A fresh start, a starting over after messing up. Don’t we all have something we wish we could have another run at with a different outcome?
It is not a Psalm for a one time read. I have to keep it before me all the time as I often slip back into the worrying push and pull of life; but it does keep me focused on how little I know and how much He wants to keep my life moving forward and to involve Him in the planning. My part is to invite Him into it.
He is the God of second chances…and I am counting on that.
